Pompeii tour reviews

Reviews

I looked at the five Pompeii ticket options I see booked most often, one by one: what you actually get, how long it lasts, where you end up on foot. None of them is the perfect choice for everyone, and I say that even when the rating is high. If you're in a hurry: the two-hour guided tour is the one I recommend most for first-timers.

How to read these numbers

The ratings and counts below are the ones published on the listings. A 4.1 from over thirteen thousand reviews and a 4.9 from forty-five don’t mean the same thing: the first is a solid verdict on a bestseller, the second is still a thin impression. I take that into account too. The rest is my take, from having walked friends and family through those 110 acres enough times to know where people get tired.

The five options

Not sure where to start?

The key question isn’t which tour has the highest rating, but how much time you have and who you’re with. With half a day and no desire to read signs, go for a guide; with a full day and a clear head, an audio guide is more than enough. I’ve laid out the full reasoning in guide or audio guide and in which ticket to choose. If you’re still deciding whether to come at all, the honest answer is in is it worth it.

Frequently asked questions

Are these reviews independent?

Yes. I’m not a tour operator and I don’t sell tickets: I compare what’s available and point out when an option isn’t worth it. I earn a small commission if you book through the links, at no extra cost to you, and that doesn’t affect what I write — the details are in affiliate transparency.

What tour do you recommend for first-time visitors?

In most cases, the two-hour guided tour: small group, someone to answer your questions, and the ticket included. If you’d rather explore at your own pace, check out the audio guide ticket review.

How is a GetYourGuide tour rating determined?

By reviews from people who booked through the platform after completing the activity. A high rating with only a few reviews should be taken with more caution than a slightly lower one with thousands. To see how much time to set aside for your visit, see how much time you need.
