If you only have one day and want to understand what life was like under Mount Vesuvius, this is the most efficient option I know. Why the two sites work together
Pompeii shows you a city: streets, blocks, shops, the sheer scale of it. Herculaneum lets you see the details that have been lost in Pompeii, and it’s compact—an hour and a half or two is enough.
